|2016 National Health Center Week|
New Jersey celebrated National Health Center Week by holding over 80 events this year!
Congratulations to our health centers for coordinating a very successful National Health Center Week! The second week of August is a special week dedicated to recognizing the important role and invaluable contributions of America’s Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), their staff, board members and all those responsible for their success. Celebrating America’s Health Centers: Innovators in Community Health was the theme this year. In New Jersey, there are 23 FQHCs and 128 sites statewide. Our FQHCs celebrated National Health Center Week by hosting health fairs, back-to-school immunization days, open houses, cook-outs for the homeless and so much more! Free health screenings and health education was made available to the public. Vendors included insurance providers, state agencies, hospitals, farmer’s markets and local community businesses. Legislators and state officials such as Senator Bob Menendez, Congressman Donald Payne, Health Commissioner Cathleen Bennett and Assistant Commissioner Lisa Asare attended events throughout the week.
The 83 incredible events that took place during this week would not have been possible without the dedicated coordinators at each of our centers. Thank you for all of your hard work!
Many thanks to the sponsors who helped make the week a great success! NJPCA could not have provided our centers with the giveaways without your generous support!
